Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience
Expected salary range $32.07 to $42.83. Full salary range $32.07 to $53.58 per hour.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration or related field.
OR
Combination of education and experience equivalent to four (4) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Nature of Work
Under supervision, provides front-line support of departmental PC and peripherals for Olmsted County. Responsible for the configuration, hardware installation, problem determination, hardware maintenance, operating systems installation, application software installation and interpreting policy procedures for County end-user's PC and peripherals. Participates in problem determination and repairs of County departmental computer equipment, networks, printers and cabling. Works on the Help Desk on a rotating basis to provide high quality telephone support. Assists in maintaining network system integrity, data integrity and client computer integrity. Assists in network application software support. Assists in liaison activities between the Information Technology Systems department and other County departments. Assumes a backup role for certain duties of technical staff within ITS. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
Examples of Work
- Installs and maintains PC related hardware, application and operating system software, and network interface equipment for County departments
- Determines problems relative to PCs, terminals, printers and implements appropriate solutions
- Creates and maintains system procedural documentation including hardware and software
- Prioritizes calls and commits to their response time
- Works with the Information Technology Systems Service Desk to provide enhancement of end-client response time
- Determines problems with cabling, connections and other network problems and assists implementing appropriate solutions
- Monitors County department PC related equipment and PC application software for performance problems and viruses then assists in implementing appropriate solutions
- Works on the Service Desk to answer client calls and provide expert and creative solutions to problems
- Researches new products and services that relate to the County
- Works with Information Technology Systems staff in the ordering and configuring of PC related equipment
- Works with Departments to make recommendations for end-user trainings
- Provides 24/7 on-call support for systems that are identified in an SLA; on a rotational basis.
- Identifies trends, growth patterns, training issues, system design issues through solution monitoring process
- Performs related duties as required or assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of computer hardware and related software
- Knowledge of networking and data communications concepts and capabilities
- Knowledge of the techniques, procedures and methods of installing computer hardware and software
- Knowledge of PC related applications software packages including word-processing, spreadsheets, and emulation software
- Skill in accomplishing work in a timely and effective manner
- Skill in the use of computers and technology
- Ability to work with other functional areas within Information Technology Systems to promote teamwork and to provide outstanding customer services
- Ability to evaluate new technologies, analyze problems and recommend efficient solutions
