  • STEAM Summit

The STEAM Summit encourages over 2,000 middle and high school students from throughout the southeast Minnesota region to experience a variety of hands-on activities at more than 100 booths demonstrating careers, skills, and higher education opportunities in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The future success of greater Rochester's economy depends on a well-prepared pipeline of students with the education and skills needed to keep Rochester area's business and industry competitive. These summits bring together business, higher education, local government and communities to motivate and prepare our students for an increasingly competitive global marketplace.

  • REAL IMPACT REAL IMPACT

As a direct result of last year's STEAM Summit, our student surveys found of those who attended: 80% of the students would now consider a STEAM career, 60% want to further explore a STEAM career, 45% want to worker harder in their STEAM courses, and 25% plan to take harder STEAM classes!

  • OCCUPATIONS + JOB GROWTH OCCUPATIONS + JOB GROWTH

The need for technical work continues to grow. Workers in STEAM occupations use science and math to solve problems. Educational requirements for STEAM occupations range from a high school diploma and on-the-job training to a PhD. Fourteen percent of all STEAM occupations will require an associate degree. 53% will require a baccalaureate degree. But all require the ability to think logically. Growing demand for technological advances means more jobs for STEAM workers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects job growth of 22 percent for STEAM occupations as a whole between 2004 and 2014.

Nearly all the major STEAM groups are expected to have about the same rate of growth as the national average of 13 percent. The exception is computer specialist occupations, which are expected to grow much faster than the average.
